Find the leak and stop the water loss

Pool Leak Detection Melbourne

Losing water fast? We pressure test the pipes, dive the pool, and check the equipment to find exactly where the water is going.

What we do

Pressure testing, diving, and structural leak location

Before we arrive

Do not empty the pool. Tell us how much water it loses each day.

Safety first

Turn off the pump if the water drops below the skimmer box.

Good for

Common reasons people call us

1

The pool loses more water than normal evaporation

2

You have to top up the pool every few days

3

There are wet patches around the pool or gear

4

The pump keeps running dry

5

You see cracks in the pool shell

6

Air bubbles are coming out of the returns

What we check

A proper look at the whole setup

Water loss rate over 24 hours

Pump, filter, and valve condition

Skimmer box and return jets

Underwater lights and fittings

Hydrostatic valve in the floor

Pressure testing of the pipes

Pool equipment we work on

What we work with

We check the equipment, water path and controls before we recommend a repair.

Exposed pool pipe risers during leak access work
Pipework exposed so the leaking section can be tested and repaired
Structural access points at a drained pool edge
Targeted access made where concealed pipework needs investigation
Existing pool pipework and valves
Suction and return lines isolated during leak testing
Existing and replacement pool plumbing manifolds
Old and renewed manifold pipework shown side by side
Leak investigation tools beside a pool
The work area prepared for controlled testing

Common problems

What could be going on

The same problem can have a few different causes. We test before we start replacing gear.

Problem 1

The water level settles near the skimmer and then slows down

What might cause it

A leak at the skimmer throat, skimmer body, adjoining pool shell, or a suction line at that level

How we check

We monitor the static water level, dye test the skimmer and pressure test the connected line where required

Problem 2

Air returns to the pool or the pump repeatedly loses prime

What might cause it

A suction-side air leak at the pump lid, union, valve, skimmer line or another fitting before the pump

How we check

We inspect the seals, isolate each suction line and test under vacuum or pressure to narrow down the leak

Problem 3

The equipment pad is wet only while the system is running

What might cause it

A leaking pump seal, filter fitting, multiport valve, union or split pressure pipe

How we check

We dry the pad, run each operating mode and trace where the water first appears rather than following where it collects

What we can help with over the phone

Help you measure the water loss
Check photos of wet areas
Tell you how to do a bucket test

What needs a site visit

Find an underground leak
Check the underwater fittings
Pressure test the pipes

Our process

How we handle it

01

Check the gear

We look for leaks around the pump, filter, and valves.

02

Pressure test

We plug the pipes and test them to see if they hold pressure.

03

Dive the pool

We get in the water and dye test the lights, skimmer, and returns.

04

Plan the fix

We explain where the leak is and how we will repair it.

After the visit

What happens next

Quick patch

We fix minor leaks in the skimmer or fittings with pool putty.

Pipe repair

We locate the broken pipe and plan the digging and plumbing work.

Equipment fix

We replace the leaking seal, valve, or union at the pad.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the questions we hear most often.

How do I know if it is a leak or evaporation?+

A bucket test helps separate evaporation from water loss. Put a bucket of water on the step and mark both levels. If the pool drops more than the bucket, book leak testing.

Do you have to empty the pool?+

No. We dive the pool while it is full to find the leak.

Can you fix the leak on the same day?+

We patch small leaks immediately. Broken pipes or structural work will need a planned repair.

Should I leave the pump running?+

Only if the water is above the skimmer. If it drops too low, turn the pump off so it does not run dry.

Do you fix underground pipes?+

Yes. We locate the break, cut the concrete if needed, and replumb the pipe.
