Common problems

What could be going on

The same problem can have a few different causes. We test before we start replacing gear.

Problem 1

Water is spraying or pouring from the equipment pad

What might cause it

A pressure pipe, union, pump housing, filter body or valve may have split or lost its seal

How we check

We switch the pump off, dry the area and isolate the failed section before pressure testing the repair under controlled conditions

Problem 2

The pump has lost prime and the body is too hot to touch

What might cause it

The pump may have run dry because of low water, a blocked skimmer, a closed valve or a suction-side air leak

How we check

The pump remains off until it cools, then we find why prime was lost and inspect the housing and mechanical seal for heat damage

Problem 3

There is a burning smell, smoke or heat around pool equipment

What might cause it

An overheated motor, failed terminal, damaged cable, short circuit or moisture fault may be present

How we check

Power stays isolated while a licensed electrician checks the affected circuit and equipment. The system is not restarted to see whether the fault repeats

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the questions we hear most often.

Do you offer 24-hour emergency service?+

We work Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm. Call us to see if we can fit you in urgently.

What should I do if a pipe bursts?+

Turn the pump off at the power point. If water is still leaking, turn the valves to close the pipes.

Should I keep trying to start a broken pump?+

No. If it is dry or hot, turning it on again will melt the plastic inside.

Can you do a temporary fix?+

Yes, if it is safe. Sometimes we have to leave it turned off until the proper parts arrive.

What should I send you?+

Send a photo of the broken part, a wide photo of the area, and tell us if you have turned the power off.
